I've posted this question in Diamon Slack channel and two opinions come back:
1- You need reading and writing rights in the diamond folder!
2- technically the problem can be what way of database the rokos compiled DMD wallet accept might deepend on the way they compiled the wallet
its possible they compiled it in a way incoimbatible with the presynmced chains we have as download in that case one rokos v8 DMD guy need to sync and upload the database which can be used by other rokos v8 DMD users.

Does anybody have experience with any of the above?

HI. I have an issue diamond wallet. It crashed after synchronising about 20% of blockchain, then would not start. So I've cleared all but wallet.dat . To speed it up I've downloaded and uziped whole blockchain from their website and I got an error. Then even copy of the latest synch blockchain one their developer posted to me - the same error.  Error initialising database environment /home/pi.Diamond! When I delete all data but wallet.dat then the wallet starts. Any ideas how use downloaded blockchain?

That was an example with Bitcoin, you need to know your currency port or set it up on their .conf file.
I think you are trying for transfercoin, hence should go check their ports and info, the example I provided is for Bitcoin, but same basics apply.

OKheymos , I've inserted a list of nodes from here (large inferno) . How does it work - what if they change or some of them are not there later? Do I need to keep updating the list?

The wallet will not sync. I'm able to import blockchain, but the last two days are not syncing. Could be related to Imotheb post on OKcoin forum...

add some nodes to the .conf file of that currency, make sure it has connections ;)
you can get some nodes from their explorer or forums.

OKtoshi, firstly I'm not sure port 8333 is the problem at first place. Reading from your link and checking the on [ur=https://bitnodes.21.co/#join-the-networkl]bitnode [/url] the port shows closed. I've done port forward on my router to my PI like this

Given the new v.8 version problem with synchronisation (port is closed) I've tried to "connects through SOCKS5 proxy" in Options>Network. This leaves me now locked out  ans each time I start the app it gives me the following error "unsupported argument -sock found. Setting SOCKS version isn't possible anymore, only SOCKS5 proxies are supported"  and then the app closed. How do I revert not using the SOCKS5 setting?   Error screenshot
